Welcome to Hedgemoor

Overview

Hedgemoor is a small, storybook neighborhood in the 38111 ZIP code, near the Poplar and Highland corridor. Curving streets, landscaped islands at the intersections, and grand old trees give it a quiet, timeless feel. Galloway Golf Course and the Red Acres neighborhood lie just to the south.

History and Architecture

Hedgemoor is one of a group of early East Memphis subdivisions from the 1920s, along with Red Acres, Chickasaw Gardens, and Walnut Grove. These neighborhoods set the tone for Memphis residential design for decades. Its plat follows the same curving street pattern as its neighbors. A 1928 newspaper aerial shows the young neighborhood before its now-towering trees had grown in. Street names such as St. Andrews Fairway likely come from the nearby Galloway course.

Homes are mostly 1920s and 1930s Tudor Revival and Colonial designs, with some later additions and updates. An English Tudor built in 1927 on St. Andrews Fairway is a good example of the neighborhood's character.

Lifestyle

Hedgemoor offers a tucked-away setting close to everything: golf at Galloway, walks in Audubon Park, and quick drives to Midtown, the University of Memphis, and East Memphis shopping.

Schools Nearby

Nearby schools include Presbyterian Day School and St. Mary's Episcopal School on the Poplar corridor, plus the University of Memphis. Public school assignment comes from Memphis-Shelby County Schools and depends on the address, so confirm zoning with the district.

Nearby Amenities

  • The Links at Galloway golf course
  • Audubon Park, the Memphis Botanic Garden, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens
  • Laurelwood and Poplar Avenue dining and shopping
  • Quick access to Midtown and the University District

What to Know Before You Buy

Tudor and Colonial homes from the 1920s often have plaster walls, steep slate or tile roofs, original windows, and older sewer lines. These features add charm, but they need specialized attention. We recommend a sewer scope, a roof evaluation, and an electrical review on top of a standard inspection. Hedgemoor homes rarely come on the market, so having your financing and inspection plan ready helps you act quickly when the right house appears.

Who It Suits

Hedgemoor suits buyers looking for authentic 1920s Tudor and Colonial architecture, mature landscaping, and a central location near golf and parks.
